CHRISTMAS CRYPTIDS
For most of European history, midwinter was a season to survive, and folklore filled its long nights with remarkable figures: Krampus, who carries the birch switches the saint will not; Iceland's Grýla and her thirteen sons; the Yule Cat, which hunts anyone without new clothes; and the Mari Lwyd, a ribboned horse skull that knocks at the door and demands to rhyme its way inside.

About the Library Mirabilis
Mirabilis is Latin for wonderful, a thing to be marveled at. It comes from mirari, to wonder, and it is the test for every book on these shelves.
The Library collects the strange and the overlooked: secret societies and forbidden books, sea serpents and carnivorous plants, failed prophets and drowned churches, and the ghost stories the Victorians told by the fire. Every volume is illustrated throughout in a Victorian engraving style and made to be kept, the kind of book you hope to find in an old bookshop.
The non-fiction is written by A. R. Wells, who also gathers, introduces, and edits the anthologies of classic supernatural fiction, restored from early printings.
